Celtx has been a mainstay in the toolkits of instructors from middle school to post-grad, as they work with students on developing their filmmaking skills. But what other tools are instructors relying on, and how has the shift to online learning changed the tools we use to educate and encourage students?
On Wednesday, September 23rd, 2020, we joined film and media instructors, educators, and teachers around the world as we discussed creating a production toolkit for film production instructors during our free Celtx Industry Series webinar.

Meet Our Panelists
We asked our panelists to let us in on their top tips and secret sources when teaching film production. Here’s some additional information on our co-hosts and their backgrounds:
Anna is a proud Texas native who loves big skies and grits. She attended the Savannah College of Art and Design where she earned a BFA in Performing Arts and Master’s in Arts Entrepreneurship and Leadership. She began her teaching career in Texas where she designed curriculum for at-risk students that used creativity, filmmaking, improvisation, and community building activities to help students improve their language and literacy skills. After building that program, Anna went on to be one of the founding teachers for a project-based high school in Lancaster County, PA where she taught students English, Spanish, Speech, and Media Arts. Anna joined the Science Leadership Academy staff in 2017 as the CTE (Career & Technical Education) Digital Video teacher. She loves working with the next generation of visual storytellers through the CTE program and elective classes. She has a healthy obsession with living life to the fullest and does her very best to pass that zeal along to everyone who comes into her classroom. Anna runs her own videography and filmmaking business, A&A Stories, and strives to keep one foot in the industry and one foot in the classroom. Erick Pessôa is currently the filmmaking teacher at the American School of Paris (ASP). He has been at ASP for the last six years; teaching in Shanghai and Rio de Janeiro previously. Deeply involved in the Diploma Programme (DP) film programme, he has been an IB examiner since 2013, a workshop leader in the subject and the moderator for the DP film community board at MyIB. He likes to, “brag” about the fact that during his free time, he is constantly doing research for his classes by watching as many movies as possible.
Jamie Skidmore is an award winning artist with over 30 years experience in the theatre. He’s a co-founder of the Isle aux Morts Theatre Festival, and is a founding member of the St. John’s Shorts Festival. He works as a director, designer, producer, and playwright throughout Newfoundland and Labrador, as well as in other parts of Canada, the US, and the UK. In 2006 he served as the Production Manager/Technical Director for the Magnetic North Theatre Festival, Canada’s National Festival of Contemporary Theatre in English.
Recent directing and design credits include The Brass Button Man (various venues), Moby Dick – Rehearsed (Memorial University), Apes and Grunge is Dead (St. John’s Shorts, 2017); A Fish Tale: A Puppet Lantern Play and Cod Love (Isle aux Morts Theatre Festival, 2017); Sleepers (St. John’s Shorts, 2016); Double Axe Murders (Granite Coast Theatre Festival, 2016); and Our Ancient Family (for NunatuKavut Community Council’s 250th British-Inuit Treaty Ceremony, 2015). He has worked with many prominent NL theatre companies and artists, including RCA Theatre, Artistic Fraud of Newfoundland, Perchance Theatre, Grand Bank Regional Theatre, Gordon Pinsent, Andy Jones, Mary Walsh, and more. His current projects include directing a shadow puppet play, “The Kraken,” written by Darren Ivany; and shooting and editing 40 Shakespearean monologues for director Danielle Irvine and Perchance Theatre.
