We’re excited to announce the release of Script Drafts – a new feature which allows users to create draft scripts from their core project script. With unlimited draft scripts, users can explore as many new directions as they want, or plan for as many alternate scripts as they need.
A new feature developed on popular demand, this release supports the non-linear nature of scriptwriting, and is particularly useful for:
- Creating contingency, backup, or alternate scripts
- Making backups before taking a chance or changing direction
- Keeping historical copies for production management
- Planning for the development of new video or media assets from a core script
- Script translation/localization planning
Drafts have all the major Celtx scriptwriting features users know and love, and is available on desktop and mobile devices. And, this new feature pairs with Celtx’s episodic tools, allowing the creation of drafts for individual episodes within an episodic project.
Like a user’s core project script, drafts are fully-editable. Existing Celtx script editor features like presence awareness and in-line commenting with @mentions allow users to co-write and collaborate on drafts.
Unlike a user’s main script, drafts are not connected to other Celtx tools like the breakdown, catalog, or beat sheets. Drafts are independent of these tools to preserve important production planning information and to facilitate clear communication and continuity between story development, scriptwriting, and production planning.Â
Users of Celtx’s Writer, Writer Pro, Team, Classroom, and Pro plans – as well as new users who sign up and get a 7-day trial of Celtx’s scriptwriting and story development tools – can now create draft scripts.
How to create drafts from your Celtx script
Saving a draft script is easy. With your script open, simply go to File and click Save Draft.
Then, name your draft and click SAVE.
And that’s it!
You’ve got a fully-editable draft script that’s connected to your core script to edit, share, and build on as you desire.
On the surface, this is a simple product feature to add, but we’re really excited about it because of the opportunities it opens up for Celtx users to create space for productive and meaningful scriptwriting, and connected collaboration.
