From the big screen to the mobile screen, from live-action to the virtual camera - Motion Sketches presents a range of highly practical perspectives on developing a media project from concept to production - screenplay, design, story, development and delivery.

A Cultural Anthropologist's vid explains why "Web 2.0... the Machine is Us/ing Us"

If you haven't seen this video already, I think you'll find it interesting...

In an effort to explain Web 2.0 and why it matters, Michael Wesch, an assistant Cultural Anthropology Prof at Kansas State University, created this video by mixing together a bunch of animations, text and screenshots.

So is the machine using you?
You might want to keep the kleenex handy ;)

And btw... I noticed our stats have recently indicated a lot of interest in Celtx from Kansas State University, so a hearty welcome to our new KSU users!

iPhone home... About the Local Boy on 24

No... I'm not going to talk about Apple's new iPhone simply because everyone and their dog is barking about it.

Based on what I've read it looks and sounds rather impressive though, so I'd suggest if you're lucky enough to get your hands on one,..... Arts_majumder_sm_392_2why not call home and tell the folks the great news about how one of our local boys, comedian Shaun Majumdar gets to exchange ammo with fellow Canadian Keifer Sutherland on the upcoming season premiere of 24!

Free Love Story

It's not too often we cover products that are free. Mostly, we cover gear that you'll have to plop down some cash for in return for a glossy product with a certain level of customer support. While Celtx doesn't have that pro-look or a 24-hour 1-800 number, it does offer a great set of tools for creative amateurs and professionals who are working with narrative scripts.

Built like a Fox
Celtx is built from the same software framework as Mozilla Firefox, a popular web browser among nerds and Internet junkies (and our own office staff). Since Firefox itself is a free, open-source program, it was only natural to keep that true when a collection of software developers and filmmakers created Celtx. Its lineage is obvious. Celtx (which is available for PC, Mac and Linux in 20 different languages) has its similarities with Firefox. We reviewed Celtx version 0.9.7.2, but at the time of publishing this issue we saw that 0.9.8 was released. The latest release ties directly into their revamped Project Central. More on that later.

The spread of the internet has popularized free software. Before the internet, freeware tended to mean inferior. More specifically, before open source software. The Gimp and Open Office are the poster-boy applications of the free-generation.... more
