iPhone home... About the Local Boy on 24

No... I'm not going to talk about Apple's new iPhone simply because everyone and their dog is barking about it.

Based on what I've read it looks and sounds rather impressive though, so I'd suggest if you're lucky enough to get your hands on one,..... Arts_majumder_sm_392_2why not call home and tell the folks the great news about how one of our local boys, comedian Shaun Majumdar gets to exchange ammo with fellow Canadian Keifer Sutherland on the upcoming season premiere of 24!

logo-notype.pngOctober 5, 2006 - St.John's, Newfoundland, Canada - Greyfirst Corp. has just released the latest version of Celtx, the open source media pre-production software used in over 90 countries to create film, video, machinima, animation, comics and computer games.

Tapping in to the insatiable thirst of consumers for access to back stories, cast details, production notes and ‘How to’s, Media Creators can use Celtx to enhance their published projects with any information generated during or after the pre-production process, enabling them to produce a more compelling viewing experience to help drive interest and demand. The new technology will also help search engine indexing, making it easier for consumers to find appealing projects.

Greyfirst Co-Founder and CEO, Mark Kennedy stated, “Users can create an online "Bonus Disc" to augment their media project, publishing background details on key characters, locations, and scenes or to provide information about an interesting Prop or Wardrobe item. Anything that is in your Celtx project can be published. And anything that’s published will be indexed by a search engine, helping to raise the Creator’s profile and improve a published project’s visibility on the Net.”

The new Celtx publishing tool supports the posting of any pictures, sound files or video clips used during or after pre-production. Creators can provide details about any item in any one of the over 30 supported production categories – everything from Animals to Vehicles.
“Anything that was used in creating their story – or even after – can be published to their own project page on Celtx Project Central”, Kennedy added. “Future versions of Celtx will extend this capability to enable publishing to the Creator’s own web site or blog.”

Aimed at video and filmmakers, Celtx lets users write scripts, perform breakdowns, plan productions and collaborate with others online.

Further leveraging the technologies in Firefox, this new version of Celtx introduces Document Tabs. Users can now view their Script, Title Page, and Production Database as separate documents. The newest feature is a Web Tab that can be used to conduct research or add information to the Production Database.

“The Web Research tab, which is accessible while in the application, is the first step towards the introduction of even more story development tools”, Mark Kennedy, Greyfirst’s co-founder and CEO stated. “We will be adding even more amazing capabilities very soon.”

Research material, including any images, sound files, video clips, and text can be dragged and dropped into the Celtx database where they can be associated with specific script items, saved for future reference, or re-purposed for future projects. The resulting field of information can be used to help pre-visualize a project, provide interesting background for the film and video that can be shared with others or used to improve the search rankings of any projects posted online using the Celtx publishing service.

Other core features of Celtx include:
• Writing, importing, editing and publishing scripts using standard industry formatting
• Support for adding media - including sound files, video clips and digital pictures
• Powerful collaboration features, allowing team members to work together over the Internet
• Adherence to open standards, ensuring users have unfettered access to their data

Built on top of the award winning Firefox technologies, Celtx is an open standards software application. The open source nature of Celtx has encouraged users to volunteer their efforts and translate the application into their own language. With the recent release of a Japanese version, Celtx is now offered in 15 languages, making the application available to dedicated users located in over 50 countries around the globe.

The Technology
Celtx is built using Firefox's XUL Mozilla application framework and runs "inside" the Mozilla Firefox browser. Celtx works on all major operating systems - Mac, Linux and Windows. The application uses a semantic web compliant RDF database and XML file formatting.

September 8, 2005 –St. John's, Canada - Greyfirst Corp. released a new version of Celtx; the digital pre-production software used to create Video, Film and TV content.

Celtx is a unique and innovative application that for the first time enables people engaged in the pre-production of a video, film or TV project to work in a digital environment – write scripts, perform breakdowns and collaborate with others. Built on top of the award winning Firefox technologies, Celtx is an open source and open standards software application that has rapidly established an international following, with thousands of dedicated users located in over 50 countries around the globe.

“We’ve been busy all summer working on the next release of Celtx. We hope it shows!”, Co-Founder Mark Kennedy stated. “We’ve paid close attention to our community of users, adding only what was asked for, including a vastly improved editor and file management features. We’ve also added a new database view to help people organize their film and video related media.”

Some of the new features in this version include:
Keep your fingers where they’re supposed to be!
A new, and much improved editor that provides a WYSIWYG experience has been added. The editor now supports things like page breaks, bold-italics-underlining, plain and formatted text editing with associated hotkeys and right click contextual 'cut-copy-paste’.

Suspenders and a Belt?
In response to the many requests… users will now be able to save their Celtx projects to a location of their own choosing. Users still have the ability to do remote back-ups to the Celtx server, but can now also save their projects to any location using standard file save dialogue.

Celtx has a Database?
Breakdown information, including any text and media mark-ups, are now displayed inside a database view where the information can be "sliced and diced" by the user, allowing the project data to be organized by purpose.

Everyone is Invited to the Party
Celtx now includes every breakdown category. We have also tweaked the colour code system to match the industry norm.

Scene by Scene Navigator
The new left hand Scene Navigator, which now includes scene descriptions, has new icon driven ‘move scene up/down’ and ‘delete scene’ options. Double click behavior has been added.

New Face to the World
In addition to all of the above, we’ve made several improvements to the Celtx GUI, including the addition of a 'Sidebar' icon that enables two Editor screen views with zoom capability. As well, there are ‘drag enabled’ splitters between column elements in the download project dialog, better layout of the editor toolbar icons, and a smaller ‘icon/text’ option for the project toolbar.

Celtx core features include:
• Writing, importing, editing and publishing scripts using standard industry formatting
• Support for adding media - including sound files, video clips and digital pictures
• Powerful collaboration features, allowing team members to work together over the Internet
• Adherence to open standards, ensuring users have unfettered access to their data

The Technology
Celtx is built using Firefox's XUL Mozilla application framework and runs “inside” the Mozilla Firefox browser. Celtx works on all major operating systems - Mac, Linux and Windows. The application uses a semantic web compliant RDF database and XML file formatting.

logo-notype.png

May, 2005 – Greyfirst Corp. released a new version of Celtx, the world’s first Internet Ready Film and TV Script writing application.

Celtx is a unique and innovative application used by script writers and people working in pre-production to create film and TV content. Built on top of the award winning Firefox technologies, Celtx, an open standards application that leverages the Mozilla Application Framework, has rapidly established an international following, with thousands of dedicated users located in over 50 countries around the globe.

Unlike every other script writing application on the market, Celtx uses Internet standard technologies, allowing users to access and repurpose media from the Internet, including digital pictures, video clips and sound files. Programmed using XUL and JavaScript, the Celtx application utilizes a semantic web compliant RDF database on the back-end.

One thing that distinguishes Celtx from every other software offering in this market is its ability to behave like a client and a browser at the same time. “We’ve managed to trick-out Firefox, the open source web browser that Celtx is built on, to behave like a stand-alone client and, simultaneously, a web browser,” Kennedy explained. “This provides users with a unique experience; one that marries the desktop to the Internet.”

This innovative approach enables Celtx to seamlessly incorporate Web services, like the application’s unique and useful collaboration feature, all while providing the security and peace of mind inherent in having local file control.

New features in the 0.8.9 release include Character Auto-Complete, text and HTML exporting, and the implementation of an international standard script format.
