It's a pleasure to award this week's POW prize to David Cortesi for his adaptation of Edgar Rice Burrough's classic fantasy novel, A Princess of Mars. - "...a wonderful scientific romance that perhaps can be best described as early science fiction melded with an epic dose of romantic adventure."
A lot can be learned from this project because not only are we treated to a good script, but David also shares with us his project notes which reflect incredible attention to detail related to descriptions of various story elements, characters, and locations, and the notes also provide transparency and valuable insight to David's vision of the project and to the challenges encountered while adapting the story.
It's clear Cortesi put a great deal of work into adapting this novel to screenplay. While unrelated to his own effort, other attempts to bring the same classic to real production have been sited on IMDb and in this ERB fanzine. I have no doubt that 'when' David's script gets into the right hands, we'll be seeing his vision of 'The Princess of Mars' on the big screen too.
Thanks for sharing, David Cortesi... and Congratulations!!
We look forward to reading more from you.
