Happy Holidays!!!

Hey Everybody,

Just wanted to let everyone know that we are going to be taking a well deserved break over the holiday season. We're going to close the office from December 22 until January 2. While the office is closed, we won't be entirely unreachable. I will certainly be checking the forums and email (as will others) on a regular basis, though you might not get the lightening quick response that you're use to during this time.

So Merry Christmas, Happy Hannukah, Happy Kwanzaa, and a Joyous Festivus (did I miss any?) to everyone, from all the gang here at Celtx headquarters!!!!

Cheers to all of you and all the best in the coming new year! It's going to be an exciting one for all of us!

Celtx Bloggity Bloggers

logo-notype.pngAfter the online diary was introduced to the Net about 16 years ago, it's clear now that what has evolved into 'blogging' has become a quick and popular way for the world to communicate. People simply love to blog, keeping an ongoing account of whatever it is that turns them on... or off, and everything in between.

News of Celtx travels fast in the bloggersphere, too. I receive Google Alerts regularly on who's writing what about Celtx. The 'who' appears to be people of all ages from all walks of life, and the 'what' so far, has been extremely positive. And that makes us really happy, so we decided to post that good news here on the new Celtx Blog and share what others are saying from around the globe. Below are a number of mentions to get things started and I'll be adding them as we go.

In the meantime, keep on blogging people... and help spread the Celtx word!

Cheers!

Portable_apps_logoPortable Apps / Portable Celtx
Over the past year members of the Celtx user community have volunteered their time to make Portable Celtx a reality. Our devs had little if anything to do with it.
Thanks to these volunteer efforts, you can now upload your Celtx program to any USB flash drive, and download to any operating system. And you have your choice of doing that in English, French, Italian, Portuguese (Brasil) or German!

There's a discussion thread related to this over at Portable Apps . It's where we learned that Jacob Koehler took it upon himself to gussy things up with cool graphics and is encouraging further localization of Portable Celtx.

Celtx: Screenwriting for the Rest of Us
by: Chris Howard

The spread of the internet has popularized free software. Before the internet, freeware tended to mean inferior. More specifically, before open source software. Nowadays, you can find software that is often a more than adequate substitute for pricey commercial applications. The Gimp and Open Office are the poster-boy applications of the free-generation....

Free Love Story

It's not too often we cover products that are free. Mostly, we cover gear that you'll have to plop down some cash for in return for a glossy product with a certain level of customer support. While Celtx doesn't have that pro-look or a 24-hour 1-800 number, it does offer a great set of tools for creative amateurs and professionals who are working with narrative scripts.

Built like a Fox
Celtx is built from the same software framework as Mozilla Firefox, a popular web browser among nerds and Internet junkies (and our own office staff). Since Firefox itself is a free, open-source program, it was only natural to keep that true when a collection of software developers and filmmakers created Celtx. Its lineage is obvious. Celtx (which is available for PC, Mac and Linux in 20 different languages) has its similarities with Firefox. We reviewed Celtx version 0.9.7.2, but at the time of publishing this issue we saw that 0.9.8 was released. The latest release ties directly into their revamped Project Central. More on that later.
