NewsForge Review - "Manage Your Movie with Celtx"

logo-notype.pngThe Open Source Technology Group's Editorial Director for Linux.com, Joe 'Zonker' Brockmeier recently wrote a very thorough review of Celtx.... and it's driving a lot of traffic :)

Thanks Joe!

Article:
Add Celtx to your software toolbox, then get ready to sign the standard "rich and famous" contract. Celtx is media pre-production software for writing screenplays and keeping track of all the details that make up the production of a movie, theatrical production, or animation project.

Celtx is based on Firefox 1.5, and is available under a modified Mozilla Public License (MPL) called the Celtx Public License (CePL). It's interesting how the Celtx team has transformed the Firefox codebase into something almost completely different.

Another Celtx Release - v. 0.972

logo-notype.pngHey Gang - Celtx 0.972 introduces a couple of new features and a host of bug fixes. You can grab the new release from our download page.

NEW FEATURES

Right-Click Add
We added "right click" behavior in the Project Navigator (what we call the top left box with the folders) to make it easier to 'Add [an] Item' and 'Add [a] Folder'.
So 'Add' away.

Reports
Reports were a mess, so the improvements made are dramatic, even though we can do much more.

To that end, we're busy working on an entirely innovative approach to reports and publishing and sharing, but that won't be until September. So, in the meantime, we hope you like the changes that we have made to the layouts.

FIXED BUGS

Pagination
The "blank pages when script contains long action/dialog elements" is resolved.

And page numbers should always appear in a local print even if pagination is
disabled.

Media in Forms
You can now delete sound and video media from forms. Sorry about that one.

ET Calling Home
We've turned off the Splash page auto refresh. It wasn't really doing much and it was causing problems for people on dial-up (yes, incredibly, there are still people on dial-up ;)

Tagging a Scene not an Item
You can now tag a whole scene as opposed to having to tag an item. It is represented as a diamond icon in the script.

Reports
You can now select an Item while in a Report. No more 'Unresponsive Script' error.

And your Dialogue will maintain its formatting after generating a 'Report with Notes'.

F&R
As the pointy heads in the development department say, Find & Replace is now "persistent"
- ie. it no longer shuts off after each search.

Scene Headings
Issues with moving and deleting scenes after a cut and paste have been fixed.

Supercalifragilisticexpialidocius Bug
Long project titles no longer cause the 'OK' and 'Cancel' buttons to move
out of view.

Thats' it.

Enjoy! Create. And keep an eye out for 098.
