Celtx supports the Magnetic North Theatre Festival

logo-notype.pngMagnetic North Theatre Festival Coming to St. John's

Magnetic North, Canada's premier English theatre festival, will be held in St. John's, NL from June 28 to July 8, 2006. The national festival, co-presented by Canada's National Arts Centre, was founded in 2002 and has quickly established itself as a prime venue for some of the finest contemporary Canadian theatre. The festival travels from Ottawa to another location every second year; this is its first time east of Ottawa.

As well as 10 days of exhilarating theatre from across the country, the festival features young audience programming, industry events, panels and master classes, a Newfoundland and Labrador performance series, readings of new plays from the National Arts Centre's On the Verge series, and celebrity speakers. This years Magnetic Words, a playwriting competition for young writers, will be open to youth aged 12-25 from across Newfoundland and Labrador. Winning scripts will be professionally dramaturged and presented as staged readings during the festival lead-up.

Magnetic North 2006 will be hosted by the St. John's theatre community, and Artistic Director Mary Vingoe says she's excited by the possibilities. "Magnetic North is different every year. Moving locations and incorporating the local theatre community makes it unique. Newfoundland and Labrador has such a vibrant cultural community. We're looking forward to working with its members to make this year a huge success."

logo-notype.pngFOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

5th Annual FRAMED Script Contest and Camp a Go!

June 20, 2006, St. John's NL - The St. John's International Women's Film Festival and the Newfoundland Independent Filmmakers Cooperative (NIFCO) present the 5th Annual FRAMED Script Contest and Media Camp.

FRAMED is a free hands-on training initiative that provides Level I, II or III students with a greater understanding of filmmaking. The challenge is to write an original script of any genre, preferably dialogue-heavy and approximately 10 minutes long. A team of high school students will produce the winning script at this year's FRAMED Media Camp (July 24-28) and the resulting film will be screened at the 17th Annual St. John's International Women's Film Festival, Oct. 18-22, 2006.

This year, professionals from NIFCO and the local pre-production software company Celtx will be working closely with participants, providing a combination of experience, state-of-the-art equipment and cutting edge software to develop the film.

Led's Concept, the short film produced by FRAMED 2005, opened last year's Women's Film Festival to enthusiastic reviews. Scriptwriter Alex Goncharov left FRAMED noting that "it's possible if you have a dream that you can go ahead and pursue it, whatever it is."

Scriptwriters should include their name, telephone number, e-mail, age and school in their submissions. Deadline is July 1, 2006. Students graduating from Level III are still eligible. No other conditions apply!

For more information or to register for the camp call Kelly or Jon at 754-3141 or e-mail wff_admin@nfld.net.

Scripts can be submitted to:

Celtx 097RC2

logo-notype.pngWe're very pleased to deliver this new candidate for the next version of Celtx - 097RC2

We caught the crash bug, fixed a slew of other issues and made some improvements along they way. There are still a few known annoyances, but they should be minor in nature.

You should find this release otherwise stable and useable.

We'd appreciate any feedback you can provide on how this Release Candidate behaves per the usual mechanisms for submitting bugs. If all goes well, we hope to issue a final release early next week.

You can download the RC here.

Thanks
The Celtx Team

Known Issues
Limited Redo - The number of available Redos may be limited depending on the circumstances that are present in the script editor. Undo works fine and is unlimited.
Giant Cursor - in certain peculiar circumstances, you may see a giant cursor. Just keep typing and things should be fine.
Pick-Lists - the Pick-Lists in the Celtx forms (eg. Scene Details) do not automatically populate until you have SAVED your script.
Splash Page - the Recent Projects list only refreshes when Celtx is launched.
Linux Script Export - Crash issue when trying to access the export option under the Script menu. Linux Only.

Fixes

Script Editor
Change

Pagination has been turned OFF by default. You can turn pagination back ON by selecting the pagination option provided under either 'Script' in the toolbar or in 'Page Set' under 'File'.

Pagination is fairly resource intensive, meaning that it uses a lot of your computers processing power. People with older machines may experience some 'lag' if they write while pagination is on, while others may notice the cursor 'jumping' in the editor while they are typing (caused when the page reformats).

For this and other reasons, we are recommending that you do your actual writing without pagination turned on as the script editor will work better while it is off.

Crash Bugs - all delete and paste and Undo crash bugs are fixed
Mark-up at end of element - cannot add non-mark-up text to end of element
Mark-up at end of Element - deletion of mark-up item deletes non-mark-up text
Cursor delete bug - delete causes re-formatting of block below cursor
Cursor delete bug - Delete appears to have no affect on text below cursor
Paste option missing from editor context menu
Delete at end of element after a copy/paste - caused entire element to disappear
Scroll behaviour - editor does not scroll with cursor
Superimposed / multiple Parenthetical
Unwanted characters pasted into script
Cursor Jumps and expands to cover multiple line
Script Notes - textbox area increased
Cut of multiple paragraphs not undo-able

Improved
Enhancedscript formatting of cut and pasted text from other sources
