Celtx – World’s First Internet Ready Film and TV Script Writing Software

May, 2005 – Greyfirst Corp. released a new version of Celtx, the world’s first Internet Ready Film and TV Script writing application.

Celtx is a unique and innovative application used by script writers and people working in pre-production to create film and TV content. Built on top of the award winning Firefox technologies, Celtx, an open standards application that leverages the Mozilla Application Framework, has rapidly established an international following, with thousands of dedicated users located in over 50 countries around the globe.

Unlike every other script writing application on the market, Celtx uses Internet standard technologies, allowing users to access and repurpose media from the Internet, including digital pictures, video clips and sound files. Programmed using XUL and JavaScript, the Celtx application utilizes a semantic web compliant RDF database on the back-end.

One thing that distinguishes Celtx from every other software offering in this market is its ability to behave like a client and a browser at the same time. “We’ve managed to trick-out Firefox, the open source web browser that Celtx is built on, to behave like a stand-alone client and, simultaneously, a web browser,” Kennedy explained. “This provides users with a unique experience; one that marries the desktop to the Internet.”

This innovative approach enables Celtx to seamlessly incorporate Web services, like the application’s unique and useful collaboration feature, all while providing the security and peace of mind inherent in having local file control.

New features in the 0.8.9 release include Character Auto-Complete, text and HTML exporting, and the implementation of an international standard script format.

Celtx is free for download at www.celtx.com/download.html

Celtx features include:
• Writing, importing, editing and publishing scripts using standard industry formatting
• Support for adding media - including sound files, video clips and digital pictures
• Powerful collaboration features, allowing team members to work together over the Internet
• Adherence to open standards, ensuring users have unfettered access to their data

Underlying Technology
Celtx is built using the Mozilla application framework and runs “inside” the Mozilla Firefox browser. Celtx works on all major operating systems - Mac, Linux and Windows. The application uses a semantic web compliant RDF database and XML file formatting.

Availability:
The current beta version of Celtx is available for free as a download from the Celtx website. All subsequent Celtx releases will be made available, for free, under an open source license.

About Celtx:
Celtx is based on next generation semantic software, where the Internet is at the forefront of development. Celtx enables people to collaborate during the creative process using a common platform. Celtx works on all major Operating Systems - Mac, Linux and Windows. Celtx uses an open-source friendly business model and adheres to open software standards.

The Power of Goodwill - Celtx user, Mike Smick contributes Flash Video Walk-Thrus

logo-notype.png

May 16, 2005 - Thanks to the enthusiastic volunteer efforts of Michael Smick (http://www.smick.net/) of Kansas City, Celtx users can now avail of three new flash video tutorials that clearly demonstrate some of the core features of Celtx.

Mike, a multi-media developer and advocate of open source software, suggested our existing walk-thru required some zip, so he offered to create new ones. Of course, we graciously accepted.

Mike included these tutorials as part of a series of demonstrations of open source applications that he's been working on, and all are officially released under the Creative Commons Attribution license.

This act of goodwill is one of many being demonstrated by Celtx users on our forum, which in the last year, has developed into a vibrant community where users receive prompt assistance from the Celtx Support team , discuss industry-related topics with others, and offer valuable feedback about what shape the development of Celtx should take. Forum members include people from all walks of life and from all over the world. The good will of user volunteers has also resulted in the translation of Celtx into nine (soon to be ten!) languages. It's all a fine example of "you get what you give"... and that's a wonderful thing.
